After having an overnight bus drive from Denver, our Etgar 36 family arrived in Salt Lake City. We enjoyed a delightful and relaxing morning at the local JCC. We had the privilege of utilizing their gym, swimming pool, showers and basketball courts. Once we rested up for two hours, we headed downtown for lunch. We got the energy we needed for our upcoming meeting with a member of the National Rifle Association.

We met with Clark Aposhian at a nearby shooting range. Mr. Aposhian is a safety shooting instructor as well as gun lobbyist and member of the NRA. We also met with Utah State Representative and pro gun advocate Mr. Curtis Oda. The discussion began with the subject matter of the 2nd Amendment. Although the right to bear arms can be interpreted in many different ways, we can not disregard the Bill of Rights. The discussion never reached an extremely heated level as Mr. Aposhian presented a very level and information filled presentation instead of being very emotional. At the end of the discussion he took us out to the shooting range where he displayed many different guns, spoke about their purpose and even shot with some of them. One gun that he displayed that struck a chord with the group was the Uzi Desert Eagle that was designed and manufactured by the Israelis.

Our next stop was back in downtown at the Mormon Church. This is the worldwide headquarters for Mormons. We heard what the religion is about and saw many of their beautiful buildings. We also heard the interesting history of how they were founded in Upstate New York and made their way to Utah.

To top off the night we went to an outdoor art and music festival featuring the band, “The Roots”. Among the many food vendor choices was a place called “Everyone Eats”. These people served food from all over the world and charged you whatever you thought was a fair price. There were many different and interesting styles of people filling the park at the concert.

After this exhausting but fulfilling day, our style will be for a good night’s sleep in preparation for another Etgar 36 day.
